Dora is a fourth-generation coffee producer who practically grew up among the coffee trees; a legacy she proudly continues today alongside her family. At El Recreo (which beautifully translates to "relaxation"), every family member plays a part, with her husband and children each managing their own section of the land.
Since 2015, El Recreo has been on a mission to transition into a fully regenerative farm while perfecting their processing consistency. But Dora’s impact goes way beyond the soil. She is a fierce champion for women in specialty coffee, mentoring local female producers and passing her deep knowledge down to her daughters; ensuring the future of El Recreo becomes a single drop that creates a beautiful ripple effect.
The farm itself looks like something straight out of a fairy tale, but working it requires serious grit. Because the hills are breathtakingly steep, the family installed an ingenious cable system to transport the harvest. This brilliant setup spares the pickers from the grueling task of trudging up and down the mountainsides carrying kilos of heavy coffee on their backs.
This year, we’re thrilled to bring you Dora’s spectacular Pink Bourbon lot. While the name might make you think it’s a standard Bourbon mutation, it’s actually a direct descendant of an Ethiopian Heirloom variety. Thanks to these unique roots, you can look forward to a beautifully complex cup bursting with elegant, bright floral characteristics.
